The Salzburg Festival celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2010, it features some 180 events, including operas, concerts, theater evenings and literary readings. And there is “Kontinente”, a contemporary music series sponsored by Roche – the festival within the festival.
“Kontinente” invites audiences on a journey of discovery through the compositional and aesthetic universe of prominent 20th and 21st century composers. As a “Roche Continents” participant, you will experience “Kontinente” from a unique and privileged perspective.
“Open up the ears, the eyes, human thinking.”
(Luigi Nono)
When the series of four musical Continents concludes this summer with the Fifth Continent, that is almost a déjà-vu. Salzburg already saw such a conclusion of a successful series of events exactly ten years ago.
This year, three great stage works form the focal points of the Fifth Continent: Luigi Nono’s Prometeo, Salvatore Sciarrino’s Macbeth and Morton Feldman’s Neither. The great attractiveness of these three composers – none of them exactly “easy” – and their works for audiences from the 1990s until today has been the subject of many a discussion. Approach it with an open mind and enjoy the experience.
